Union Station

This is still our local Amtrak station. If you arrive by train you will see it. It is a grand old building from the days when going by train was the main means of moving people across the USA and could be quit luxurious. It is open to walk around inside. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time and can remind one of all of great train stations scenes from old Hollywood movies.

The station opened in 1896. It was both a train depot and offices for Northern Pacific Terminal Company. It features a 150 Romanesque Revival clock tower. For a city with few older buildings this place is pretty good for Portland.
