Oregon Rail Heritage Center

Oregon Rail Heritage Center

This group started back in the 70s restoring, with volunteer labor, some of the last old steam engine that had been rusting away on display at Oaks Amusement Park. Now many years later one of the engines is operational, two are on a second refit and one is being restored. All are on display.  They have also collect and restored a number of historic rail cars. The Oregon Rail Heritage Center open 2012 and houses their collection gives them work space to restore more historic rail cars. They state their mission as,”To provide for the preservation, operation and public enjoyment of Portland’s historic locomotives, railroad equipment, and artifacts, and to educate the public about Oregon’s rich and diverse railroad history.”

The center is just a short distance away from OSMI. There is also an operational train that gives ride down to and back from Historic Oaks Amusement Park.
