Farmers Markets

Farmer Markets happen all over Portland. It is part of the farm to table and the know your local farmer movement. Some are definitely better then others. They can be a good place to pick up some fresh produce or other food items like bake goods. They often have live music and street performers. It is a place to rub elbows with the local or to see your neighbors.

One of the best is the Beaverton Farmers Market. I had friend who had to go every Saturday to get her produce for the week. She had her vendors she knew and they could tell her what were the best items this week and what would be arriving soon. At times she could also get fresh fish just brought in from the coast. While she did her shopping I could enjoy a fresh baked scone and fresh ground coffee while listing to a local group playing their music. My local market in North Portland, not so good.

Downtown has several Farmer Markets that happen on different days of the week during summer.

Portland State University Farmers Market – Open Year Round – Saturday

Pioneer Courthouse Square Farmers Market – Summer only

Shemanski Park – Summer only – Wednesday
