Council Crest is the highest view point in the city of Portland. It has an interesting early history of having an amusement park on it that include a roller coaster and a tower for viewing the city and the mountains. All of that is gone now. Especially said is that the view tower is gone. There is an observation ring at the high point of the park that has inscriptions pointing to various landmarks around that area. Twenty years ago this was a great place to view Portland and the Cascade Mountains. Today as with many of the old view points the trees have grown up and view is almost obscured in all directions. Today the coolest part of the park is that when you stand in the exact center of the observation circle you get this weird echo when you talk. The place is a good destination if you are doing a conditioning walk but if your are a visitor it no longer has a draw.
